Prithviraj Chauhan	c. 1166–1192	Ruler	The last Chauhan king of Ajmer and Delhi, whose defeat at the second battle of Tarain in 1192 opened north India to the Delhi Sultanate. His court poet Chand Bardai's Prithviraj Raso made him a legend.
Rana Kumbha	1433–1468	Ruler and builder	Ruler of Mewar credited with a very large building programme, including Kumbhalgarh and the Vijay Stambh at Chittorgarh, and a scholar of music who wrote on the subject.
Meera Bai	c. 1498–1547	Poetry and devotion	A Rathore princess who refused the role marriage assigned her and composed bhajans to Krishna in Braj and Rajasthani that are still sung across north India.
Maharana Pratap	1540–1597	Ruler	Held out against Akbar's expansion from the Aravalli hills after the battle of Haldighati in 1576, becoming the region's enduring symbol of resistance.
Panna Dhai	16th century	History	The nurse who, by the Mewar chronicles, substituted her own son to save the infant heir Udai Singh II — the founding story of Udaipur's dynasty.
Amrita Devi Bishnoi	d. 1730	Conservation	Led villagers at Khejarli who clasped khejri trees to stop them being felled for a royal palace; 363 are recorded as having been killed. The event is the ancestor of the Chipko movement.
Sawai Jai Singh II	1688–1743	Ruler, astronomer, planner	Founded Jaipur in 1727 on a planned grid derived from the shilpa shastra, and built five masonry observatories across north India.
Jamnalal Bajaj	1889–1942	Business and freedom movement	Industrialist from the Sikar region, treasurer of the Congress and a close associate of Gandhi, who funded and organised much of the movement's infrastructure.
Vijaydan Detha	1926–2013	Literature	Collected and rewrote Rajasthani oral tales into literature over decades; his stories became the films Duvidha, Paheli and the play Charandas Chor.
Komal Kothari	1929–2004	Folklore	Ethnomusicologist who documented and then created a livelihood for the Langa and Manganiyar musicians internationally, effectively saving both traditions.
Allah Jilai Bai	1902–1992	Music	Maand singer of Bikaner whose recording of "Kesariya Balam" became the definitive version.
