How to reach

By air

  • Jaipur International Airport (JAI) — The main gateway; about 13 km from the old city.
  • Maharana Pratap Airport, Udaipur (UDR) — Best for Mewar, Kumbhalgarh and Mount Abu.
  • Jodhpur Airport (JDH) — A civil enclave at the air force station; best for Marwar and onward to Jaisalmer.
  • Jaisalmer Airport (JSA) — Limited and seasonal service; most visitors arrive by train or road.

By rail

  • Jaipur Junction (JP)
  • Jodhpur Junction (JU) — Overnight from Delhi and Jaipur; the Jaisalmer line continues from here.
  • Udaipur City (UDZ)
  • Kota Junction (KOTA) — On the Delhi–Mumbai trunk route, so almost everything stops here.
  • Abu Road (ABR) — The railhead for Mount Abu, 27 km below it.

By road

Getting around

Autos and app cabs in the cities; shared jeeps to villages. Jeep and camel safaris from Jaisalmer, Osian and Khuri. Distances are large — Jaipur to Jaisalmer is around 560 km — so overnight trains are usually better than a day of driving.
