BharatSangraha

About

A region-by-region record of India — cuisine, dress and textiles, arts and dance, folk songs, places, festivals, people, markets, weather, terrain and how to reach every state and union territory.

Regional knowledge is contested and much of it is oral. If something here is wrong, corrections are the point.

Maps and attribution

Region maps show only the states a cultural region crosses, with the region shaded inside them. The state outlines are derived from svg-maps by Victor Cazanave, used under CC BY 4.0, reprojected to longitude and latitude and simplified. That source follows India's official external depiction, so Jammu and Kashmir includes Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, Ladakh includes Aksai Chin, and Arunachal Pradesh is complete. Ladakh shares the Jammu and Kashmir outline because the source predates the 2019 reorganisation.

These are simplifications for locating a region, not survey maps: there is no scale and no accuracy guarantee. For publication from India, substitute the Survey of India official outline map.
