| Mandaikadu Bhagavathi Amman kodai | Masi (February–March), over ten days | The region's largest festival, drawing enormous crowds from both sides of the Ghats to a coastal Amman temple. It is attended overwhelmingly by women and is often described locally as their counterpart to the great male pilgrimages. |
| Village kodai season | Chithirai to Aani (April–July), by village | Each village holds its own temple festival with villupattu, kolattam, a procession and a plantain-leaf feast. The calendar is staggered so neighbouring villages do not clash, and people attend several. |
| Pongal and Vishu, Onam and Deepavali | Thai (January), Medam (April), Chingam (August–September), Aippasi (October–November) | Both festival calendars run here in full. A household may cook sarkkarai pongal in January, set a Vishu kani in April and lay a pookkalam for Onam in August, and none of that is considered a contradiction. |
| Chitra Pournami at Kanyakumari | The full moon of Chithirai (April–May) | Sunset over one sea and moonrise over another, visible together from the same rock, drawing a crowd to the shore temple for the evening. |

| Feast of St Francis Xavier, Kottar | Early December | The cathedral feast at Kottar in Nagercoil, with a procession, street stalls and a crowd from the whole coastal parish network. Xavier's mission on this coast in the 1540s is where the region's Latin Catholic communities date their history from. |
| Ayya Vaikundar Jayanti and the Ayyavazhi observances | Masi (February–March) at Swamithope | Gatherings at the Swamithope pathi and the branch nizhal thangals for the founder's commemoration, with recitation of the Akilathirattu Ammanai. |
| Coastal parish feasts | Through the dry season, village by village | Each fishing village keeps its patron's feast with a procession, a decorated boat, fireworks and chavittu nadakam or a passion play on a temporary stage. |
| Sabarimala season traffic | Mid-November to mid-January | Pilgrim groups from across the district travel north for the Ayyappa season, and the roads, lodges and provision markets of Nagercoil and Marthandam work to that calendar for two months. |
