How to reach
By air
- Lengpui Airport, Aizawl (AJL) — The region's gateway, on a ridge about 35 km from Aizawl, with a runway laid along the top of it. Flights connect through Kolkata, Guwahati and Imphal; low cloud in the monsoon causes frequent diversions.
- Imphal International Airport (IMF) — The practical approach for the Churachandpur uplands.
- Kumbhirgram Airport, Silchar (IXS) — The northern approach, and the airhead for the Assam and Barak-side Hmar areas.
By rail
- Sairang (Aizawl) — Mizoram's first rail connection to Aizawl, opened in September 2025 at the end of the Bairabi–Sairang line — a route of tunnels and tall viaducts that took well over a decade to build through this terrain.
- Bairabi — The older railhead in the far north of Mizoram, on the Assam border.
- Silchar (SCL) — The junction from which the road approach to Aizawl begins.
By road

By water
The Chhimtuipui (Kaladan) is the only navigable route out of the southern hills, and it runs south into Myanmar rather than into India
Getting around
Shared Sumo and Bolero taxis are the real transport system — they run fixed routes between towns, leave when full, and are the only vehicles suited to the gradients. Aizawl itself is walked, or covered in local taxis; almost nothing runs on Sunday. Indian visitors from outside Mizoram need an Inner Line Permit, obtainable online or at Lengpui and Silchar.
