How to reach

By air

  • Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi (DEL) — About 150 km from Mathura by the Yamuna Expressway; the usual arrival point.
  • Agra Airport (Kheria) (AGR) — Limited service; about 60 km from Mathura.
  • Jewar (Noida International Airport) (DXN) — Under development on the Yamuna Expressway, roughly 80 km north of Mathura.

By rail

  • Mathura Junction (MTJ) — On the Delhi–Mumbai and Delhi–Agra trunk routes — almost everything stops here.
  • Vrindavan Road (VRBD)
  • Bharatpur Junction (BTE) — For Keoladeo and Deeg.
  • Kosi Kalan (KSV) — The nearest railhead for Barsana and Nandgaon.

By road

Yamuna Expressway — Delhi to Agra, with the Mathura interchangeNH 19 (the old Grand Trunk alignment) — Delhi–Mathura–AgraNH 44 — the Delhi–Palwal–Hodal approach into western BrajState roads to Govardhan, Barsana and Nandgaon, congested through the Holi season

By water

Boats at Vishram Ghat and Keshi Ghat, mainly for aarti viewing rather than transport

Getting around

Shared autos, e-rickshaws and tempos between Mathura, Vrindavan, Govardhan and Barsana; the towns are 10–25 km apart and the roads are narrow. During Holi and Janmashtami vehicles are stopped well outside the towns and the last few kilometres are walked.
