How to reach
By air
- Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, Guwahati (GAU) — The main air gateway to the whole of the Northeast, not just Assam.
- Jorhat Airport (JRH) — Closest for Kaziranga's eastern range and for Majuli.
- Dibrugarh (Mohanbari) (DIB) — Upper Assam, the tea districts and onward to Arunachal.
- Silchar (Kumbhirgram) (IXS) — The Barak valley, which is otherwise a long way round by road.
By rail
- Guwahati (GHY) — With Kamakhya (KYQ); Northeast Frontier Railway is headquartered at Maligaon in the city.
- New Bongaigaon Junction (NBQ) — Where the New Jalpaiguri trunk line meets the two routes into the Brahmaputra valley. For the Barak valley, trains turn south at Lumding.
- Dibrugarh (DBRG) — Terminus of some of the longest train runs in India.

Getting around
Shared Sumos and Wingers connect towns and are usually faster than the bus. Ferries still matter — for Majuli there is no bridge. Guwahati has city buses and app cabs; elsewhere, hire a car with a driver.
