Terrain and eco-zones
Tropical maritime and almost without seasons in the temperature sense — roughly 25–32 °C the year round, with the sea never far from 28 °C. What varies is the wind. The south-west monsoon runs from about mid-May to September, brings most of the 1,500-odd millimetres of rain, and closes the lagoons to boat movement for weeks at a time; the fishing year and the shipping year are both cut in half by it.

Rivers and waters
None. There is no stream, pond or spring in the territory. Fresh water is a lens of rainwater floating on denser seawater within the coral, reached by shallow open wells, and it thins or turns brackish when extraction outruns rainfall.
