How to reach
By air
- Bir Tikendrajit International Airport, Imphal (IMF) — About 8 km from the centre of Imphal; the busiest airport in the region after Guwahati.
By rail
- Jiribam — The current railhead, on the western edge of the state at the Assam boundary and about 220 km from Imphal by road. The line onward towards Imphal, including some exceptionally tall viaducts, has been under construction for years.
- Silchar (SCL) — The nearest large railway station in Assam, and the usual rail approach.
By road

Getting around
Shared autos and vans on fixed routes across the valley floor, plus city buses in Imphal. The valley is flat and small enough that most of it is within an hour of the centre. Non-residents require an Inner Line Permit, reintroduced in 2019 and available online and on arrival.
