How to reach

By air

  • Jaipur International Airport (JAI) — About 250 km from Kota by road or rail, and the practical air gateway for the region.
  • Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar Airport, Indore (IDR) — Around 230 km from Jhalawar, and the closer option for the eastern districts.
  • Maharana Pratap Airport, Udaipur (UDR) — For an approach through Chittorgarh, Menal and Bhainsrorgarh from the west.
  • Kota (KTU) — An airstrip without regular scheduled service; a new greenfield airport for the city has been under development for some years.

By rail

  • Kota Junction (KOTA) — A major stop on the Delhi–Mumbai trunk line and the headquarters of a railway division, so almost everything between the two cities passes through it.
  • Bundi (BUDI) — On the Kota–Chittorgarh line; a small station for a town best reached by road from Kota in an hour.
  • Baran (BAZ) — On the Kota–Bina line, for Shergarh, Sorsan and the Sahariya tracts.
  • Ramganj Mandi Junction (RMA) — For the coriander market and the stone quarries.
  • Jhalawar City (JHW) — For Gagron, Jhalarapatan and the Kolvi caves.

By road

Getting around

Autos and e-rickshaws in Kota and Bundi, state and private buses between the four district towns, and hired cars for the ravine and forest routes. Bundi is about 35 km from Kota, Jhalawar about 85 km and Baran about 70 km, so the whole region works as day trips from Kota. The Sahariya tracts in Shahabad and Kishanganj and the Chambal ravine roads are best done in daylight and with a local driver.
