How to reach

By air

• Khajuraho Airport (HJR) — The region's only regular airport, with seasonal domestic flights; about 5 km from the temples.
• Gwalior Airport (GWL) — The usual approach for Datia, Jhansi and Orchha, about 100 km north of Jhansi.
• Prayagraj Airport (IXD) — For Banda, Chitrakoot and the eastern districts.

By rail

• Jhansi Junction (Virangana Lakshmibai) (VGLJ) — The region's main railhead, on the Delhi–Mumbai and Delhi–Chennai trunk routes — nearly every long-distance train through central India stops here. Orchha is 18 km away.
• Khajuraho (KURJ) — A terminus with limited services; most visitors arrive from Jhansi or Satna by road.
• Banda Junction (BNDA) — On the Jhansi–Manikpur line, for Kalinjar and the Ken.
• Sagar (SGO) — For the southern districts and the Haveli belt.
• Chitrakoot Dham Karwi (CKTD) — The railhead for Chitrakoot, on the Jhansi–Manikpur line.

By road

Getting around

Buses and shared jeeps between district towns; autos and cycle rickshaws within them. Orchha is walkable and Khajuraho almost so. The forest and tank villages need a private vehicle, and roads in the Panna and Lalitpur forest belts are poor after the monsoon. Long-distance travel within the region almost always routes through Jhansi or Satna rather than directly, because the rail network was built to cross Bundelkhand rather than to serve it.
