How to reach

By air

• Rewa Airport (REW) — A small airport at Chorhata that began scheduled regional operations in 2023.
• Jabalpur (Dumna) Airport (JLR) — The usual approach for Bandhavgarh, Umaria and Shahdol, about 200 km from Bandhavgarh.
• Khajuraho Airport (HJR) — For Satna, Chitrakoot and the western plateau, about 120 km from Satna.
• Prayagraj Airport (IXD) — The nearest option for the north-eastern fringe.

By rail

• Satna Junction (STA) — The region's main railhead, on the Delhi–Chennai trunk route, and the interchange for Khajuraho, Chitrakoot and Maihar.
• Rewa (REWA) — A terminus on a branch from Satna; the head of the line rather than a through station.
• Maihar (MYR) — On the main line; the temple is a few kilometres from the platform and the station fills at Navratri.
• Umaria (UMR) — The railhead for Bandhavgarh, about 35 km away.
• Singrauli (SGRL) — For the eastern coal belt and the Rihand reservoir.

By road

Getting around

Buses and shared jeeps between district towns; autos within them. The waterfalls east of Rewa need a private vehicle and are strung along a single road, so they are best done as one loop. Bandhavgarh and Sanjay-Dubri require booked safaris with registered vehicles and guides. Roads in the Sidhi and Shahdol forest belt deteriorate badly through the monsoon.
