- Purnia Airport — Opened to scheduled service recently; otherwise the region flies from Patna or Bagdogra.
- Bagdogra Airport (IXB) — The practical airport for Kishanganj and the eastern belt, about 100 km away.
- Jay Prakash Narayan International Airport, Patna (PAT) — About 220 km from Bhagalpur.
By rail
- Bhagalpur (BGP) — On the Sahibganj loop line along the Ganga.
- Jamalpur Junction (JMP) — Beside the nineteenth-century railway workshops that built much of eastern India's rolling stock.
- Katihar Junction (KIR) — A major junction where the north-east lines meet the Ganga plain routes.

Getting around
Trains along the Ganga and out to Seemanchal, with shared vehicles beyond. Bhagalpur to Deoghar is about four hours by road. During Sawan the Sultanganj road is given over to pilgrims and everything else is diverted.
