- Trivandrum International Airport (TRV) — About 6 km from the centre of Thiruvananthapuram, with heavy Gulf traffic. The nearest airport for the whole southern half of the region.
- Cochin International Airport (COK) — The practical arrival point for Kuttanad and Alappuzha, roughly 85 km north of Alappuzha.

- Thiruvananthapuram Central (TVC) — The southern terminus of most long-distance services on the west coast line.
- Kollam Junction (QLN) — Junction for the Punalur–Shencottah line through the Ghats.
- Kottayam (KTYM) — The rail head for Kumarakom, Vaikom and the Sabarimala road via Erumeli.
- Chengannur (CNGR) — The station for Aranmula, Pamba and Sabarimala; it runs at capacity through the pilgrimage season.
- Alappuzha (ALLP) — On the coastal alignment; the town is walkable from it.
- Varkala Sivagiri (VAK) — For the cliff and the Sivagiri mutt, about 3 km apart.

Buses and autos everywhere; ferries where roads would need a bridge. In Kuttanad the water is the road — several villages have no through motor access and are reached by country boat. Alappuzha to Kumarakom is about 15 km across the lake and about 55 km around it, which is the single most useful fact for planning a day here.
