South Odisha & Ganjam · Eastern Coastal Plains

भूभाग और पारिस्थितिक अंचल

Tropical maritime, with around 1,300 mm falling June to September and a second, smaller pulse from the retreating monsoon in October. The plain is narrow enough that the sea moderates it — 16–30 °C in January, 26–38 °C in May — while the scarp behind it is several degrees cooler and gets appreciably more rain. The consequential season is the cyclone window, and this is the stretch of coast where Phailin came ashore at Gopalpur in October 2013; the mass evacuation that preceded it is now the standard reference for what a cyclone warning system is supposed to achieve.

साल भर

मौसममहीनेसामान्यकैसा रहता है
WinterNovember–February16–30 °CThe travelling season, and the one in which the region's calendar is thinnest — the big observances fall later. Chilika's southern arm fills with waterfowl and the cashew flowers.
Chaitra and hot weatherMarch–May26–38 °CThe region's real festival season. Danda Nata runs the whole of Chaitra, Thakurani Jatra falls in alternate years, and the olive ridley arribada at Rushikulya usually happens between late February and early April. Pakhala becomes the daily meal.
MonsoonJune–September25–33 °CHeavy and reliable on the scarp, less so on the plain. The short rivers rise and fall within hours, and the Rushikulya mouth is at its most mobile.
Post-monsoonOctober–November22–32 °CCyclone risk peaks. This is the landfall stretch — Phailin in 2013, Titli in 2018 at Gopalpur — and the district's evacuation drill is an annual routine rather than an emergency measure.

घूमने का सबसे अच्छा समयNovember to March for the coast, the temples and the hill road to Paralakhemundi. Chaitra — roughly mid-March to mid-April — if the point is Danda Nata, which cannot be staged out of season. The arribada cannot be scheduled at all: the forest department announces it a day or two ahead, and the beach is then closed except to permitted observers.
