| Budhi Thakurani Jatra | Chaitra, in alternate years, for about a month | Berhampur's defining festival. The town goddess leaves her shrine and is installed in a temporary pavilion at the house of the Desibehera family — described in the ritual as a visit to her father's home — and for a month the streets carry processions, Bagha Nacha, decorated arches and all-night performance. Because it is biennial, the town's calendar runs on a two-year rather than a one-year cycle. |
| Danda Nata and Meru Jatra | The lunar month of Chaitra, ending at Meru or Vishuva Sankranti in mid-April | A month of vowed penance and nightly performance moving village to village, closing with the Meru ceremony at which the penitents are released from the vow. It is the largest participatory ritual on this plain and it cannot be moved to suit an audience. |
| Dola Jatra and Dola Melana | Phalguna Purnima (February–March) | Village deities are carried out in decorated palanquins, taken around the fields and brought together at a common ground for the melana, where the palanquins are made to bow to one another. Ganjam observes this at a scale and with a formality the rest of coastal Odisha does not. |
| Taratarini Chaitra Mela | The four Tuesdays of Chaitra (March–April) | Successive Tuesday pilgrimages up the Kumari hills, with the largest crowds on the third and fourth. Whole extended families travel together and the approach roads are closed to ordinary traffic. |
| Mahendragiri Shivaratri | Maha Shivaratri (February–March) | An overnight climb to the summit temples, with the fair held on the hill itself. It is the one night in the year the mountain is crowded. |
| Kartik Purnima and Boita Bandana | Kartik Purnima (November) | Small paper and pith boats floated at dawn in tanks and at the river mouth, in memory of a maritime trade that ended centuries ago. The observance runs the length of this coast and is not confined to the delta. |
| Ganesh Puja and Durga Puja at Berhampur | Bhadrapada and Ashwina (August–October) | Neighbourhood pandal competitions on a scale closer to Cuttack's than to a small town's, with the silk and cashew trades funding the larger ones. |
| Chaita Parab on the slope | Chaitra (March–April) | The hill communities' own spring observance — hunting rites, the first collection of forest produce, and village-level dancing that has nothing to do with the coastal Danda calendar happening at the same time a few kilometres downhill. |
