- Ludhiana Junction (LDH) — The region's busiest junction, and the gateway to Malwa.
- Jalandhar City (JUC) — For Doaba, Kapurthala and the Beas crossing.
- Ambala Cantt (UMB) — The junction where the Punjab lines separate from the Delhi–Kalka line, in the Powadh belt.
- Bathinda Junction (BTI) — For south-western Malwa and the Rajasthan lines.
- Chandigarh (CDG) — For the capital and the Shivalik foot.

Buses run everywhere and frequently, both state and private; shared taxis and autos cover the last stretch. Amritsar's old city is best walked, and the area immediately around the Harmandir Sahib is pedestrianised. Winter fog can shut highways and delay flights and trains for hours at a stretch in late December and January.
