कैसे पहुँचें

हवाई मार्ग

  • Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar International Airport, Indore (IDR) — The gateway for the whole valley — about 90 km to Maheshwar and 80 km to Omkareshwar, over the scarp in both cases.

रेल मार्ग

  • Khandwa Junction (KNW) — A major junction on the Delhi–Chennai trunk route and the region's main railhead; the historic east–west line through it was metre gauge and has been converted.
  • Burhanpur (BAU) — On the same trunk route, and the nearest station to Asirgarh.
  • Omkareshwar Road — On the Khandwa–Sanawad line, the nearest station to the island; most visitors still come by road from Indore.
  • Barwaha and Sanawad — For the western ghat towns and the Maheshwar approach.

सड़क मार्ग

The old Agra–Mumbai trunk road, which crosses the Narmada at Khalghat — the classic descent into NimarIndore–Khargone–Julwania, down the scarp to the western valley floorIndore–Khandwa–Burhanpur, crossing the Narmada and then the Satpura to the TaptiKhandwa–Omkareshwar–Maheshwar, the ghat-town road along the valley

जल मार्ग

Boats to Mandhata island at Omkareshwar, alongside the bridgeFerry and boat crossings of the Narmada at Maheshwar and the smaller ghatsReservoir boats on the Indira Sagar backwaters from Hanuwantiya

स्थानीय आवाजाही

Buses and shared jeeps between the valley towns; the ghat towns are small enough to walk. A car is worth having for the Satpura slope, where services are thin and the roads climb. Note that almost every approach to Nimar from the north involves descending the scarp, which adds an hour to any journey a map suggests should be quick.
