| Losar | The Monpa new year, in the first month of the lunar calendar (February–March) | Several days of house-cleaning, offerings, visiting and antiphonal singing, with khapse fried in quantity, chhang brewed specially, and the yak dance and lion dance performed in the villages. Prayer flags are renewed at the passes and on the house roofs at the same time. |
| Torgya | Three days in the eleventh Monpa month, falling around 10–12 January | The great annual rite at Tawang Monastery — monastic Cham danced in the courtyard over three days to horns, cymbals and drums, ending with the burning of an effigy that is understood to carry off the harm accumulated over the year. It is performed by monks under vow and watched by the whole valley from the courtyard steps. |
| Choskar | After sowing, in early summer | Monks and villagers carry volumes of scripture in procession around the standing crop and the field boundaries, reading as they walk, to protect the harvest. It is agricultural insurance conducted as liturgy, and it is the clearest example of the monastery's role in the farming year. |
| Gorsam Kora | The last day of the first Monpa month (February–March) | A gathering at the Gorsam Chorten at Zemithang, with pilgrims walking the circuit around the stupa. Drawn from the valleys on both sides of the watershed. |
| Khiksaba | November | The Sherdukpen year-end festival at Rupa, with processions, dance and rites for the village's wellbeing. Distinct in music, costume and language from anything in the high valleys. |
| Ajilamu | Occasional, tied to village and monastic occasions | The masked dance-drama performed by villagers rather than by monks, mixing Buddhist narrative with comic and satirical characters. It is the belt's theatre. |
| Buddha Purnima | Vaisakha (April–May) | Observed at the monasteries with prayer, lamp offerings and processions. Quieter than Losar or Torgya, and the occasion for merit-making rather than for spectacle. |
| Tawang Festival | October | A state-organised festival of Monpa dance, craft, food and sport held at Tawang, and the easiest single occasion at which to see the belt's performance repertoire in one place. It is a modern event, not an old one. |
