The driest belt in Tamil Nadu, taking 750–850 mm almost entirely from the northeast monsoon between October and December, with a hot dry stretch from March to June and a second dry season in the southwest monsoon when the Ghats take everything. It is directly exposed to Bay of Bengal cyclones with no delta and no forest to absorb them, which is the whole meaning of December 1964 here.
