Malwa Plateau · Central Highlands & Forest Belt

भूभाग और पारिस्थितिक अंचल

Sub-humid, and distinctly milder than its latitude implies because the whole surface sits 300–400 m above the plains it is surrounded by. Rainfall runs about 800–1,100 mm, nearly all of it between mid-June and late September, and the black soil holds it — a Malwa field can carry a crop on stored moisture weeks after the rain stops. Summer afternoons reach 42–43 °C but the nights drop to around 22 °C, and the cool evening wind that does it is old enough to have its own name.

साल भर

मौसममहीनेसामान्यकैसा रहता है
WinterNovember–February8–28 °CCold enough for the garadu carts to appear on Indore's streets and for the rabi crop of wheat, gram and garlic to grow on stored soil moisture. The poppy is sown in November.
SummerMarch–June25–43 °CHot by day and unusually cool at night — the plateau radiates its heat away after dark. The poppy is lanced and the opium collected in March, before the heat peaks.
MonsoonLate June–September22–32 °CThe black soil turns to a gumbo that stops carts and boots alike. Soybean, sown with the first rains, is now the crop that covers the plateau.
Post-monsoonOctober18–32 °CClear and warm; the Sanjha wall-figures go up during the Pitru Paksha fortnight and the Navratri lamps follow.

घूमने का सबसे अच्छा समयOctober to March for everything. Mandu is at its best in the monsoon and immediately after, when the tanks fill and the ruins sit in green — MP Tourism runs its Mandu festival in the winter instead, which is a different and drier experience. The Simhastha returns to Ujjain in 2028.
