कैसे पहुँचें
हवाई मार्ग
- Mangaluru International Airport (IXE) — The closest airport to the crest — about two hours up the ghat to Agumbe or Sringeri.
- Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru (BLR) — The usual arrival for Chikkamagaluru, Hassan and Kodagu; five to six hours by road to Madikeri.
- Kannur International Airport (CNN) — A shorter approach to southern Kodagu than Bengaluru, over the ghat from the Kerala side.
- Shivamogga Airport — Opened to scheduled service in 2023, with limited connections; useful for the Sahyadri crest and Jog.
रेल मार्ग
- Shivamogga Town — The railhead for Sagara, Thirthahalli and the crest.
- Talaguppa — The end of the line, and the nearest station to Jog Falls.
- Hassan Junction (HAS) — For Belur, Halebidu and Shravanabelagola, and the junction for the ghat line down to the coast.
- Sakleshpur — The top of the ghat descent to Subrahmanya, a line of long tunnels and high viaducts that is worth riding for its own sake.
- Birur and Kadur — Junctions on the main line, with a branch to Chikkamagaluru.
- Kodagu has no railway — There has never been a line into the district. Mysuru, Hassan and Mangaluru are the usable railheads, each two to three hours from Madikeri by road.
सड़क मार्ग
The Bengaluru–Hassan–Sakleshpur–Mangaluru highway, the main east–west route across the regionThe Mysuru–Kushalnagar–Madikeri road, the standard approach to KodaguThe Agumbe ghat, fourteen hairpins between Udupi and the crestThe Shivamogga–Sagara–Jog road, continuing to Honnavar on the coastThe Bisle ghat road between Sakleshpur and Subrahmanya, narrow, forested and frequently closed in heavy rain
जल मार्ग
Ferry crossings across the Sharavathi backwaters behind LinganamakkiBoat and kayak operations at Honnemaradu on the same reservoir
स्थानीय आवाजाही
Buses connect the district towns well and the villages irregularly. Estates and viewpoints effectively require a car or a two-wheeler, and in the monsoon a car with clearance. Kodagu has no railway and no airport, which is a large part of why it feels separate. Forest roads through Nagarhole and Kudremukh close at dusk without exception.
