- Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, Guwahati (GAU) — The real gateway — about 125 km and three hours from Shillong by road, with shared taxis and buses running continuously.
- Shillong Airport, Umroi (SHL) — About 30 km from Shillong, with limited scheduled service; useful when it is flying and not to be depended on for a tight itinerary.
रेल मार्ग
- Guwahati (GHY) — The nearest railhead. There is no railway anywhere in the Khasi or Jaintia hills, and the terrain is the reason.

Shared taxis are the system — black-and-yellow cabs picking up multiple fares within Shillong, and Sumo counters running fixed routes to Sohra, Jowai, Dawki and Mawsynram. Anything on the War slope below the rim is reached on foot, often by long stepped descents, and the last village on a motorable road is frequently an hour's walk above the one you want.
