Bundi Garh Palace and the ChitrashalaविरासतBundi
A palace built up the face of the Taragarh hill in stages from the seventeenth century, reached by a ramp rather than stairs because elephants used it. The Chitrashala inside it holds the fullest surviving programme of Bundi wall painting — Krishna cycles, court processions and hunts worked over a blue-green ground, and the reason the school is recognisable at a glance.
सबसे अच्छा समय: October–March, morning light.
Raniji ki BaoriविरासतBundi
A stepwell commissioned in 1699 by Rani Nathavati, some 46 m deep, with paired stone elephants at the corners and ogee-arched galleries stepping down to the water. It is the largest of several dozen baoris in Bundi — a town that solved its water problem by building downwards rather than damming.
Taragarh FortविरासतBundi
The fourteenth-century hill fort above the palace, largely unrestored, with tunnels and rainwater tanks cut into the rock. Rudyard Kipling described the palace complex below it, in Letters of Marque, as the work of goblins rather than of men — a line Bundi has never stopped quoting.
Kota Garh and the Maharao Madho Singh MuseumविरासतKota
The Kota palace on the Chambal bank, with the Brijnathji temple at its centre — the Kota rulers governed from the eighteenth century as deputies of Krishna, and the arrangement shows up directly in what the Kota painters were commissioned to paint. The museum holds the state's arms, howdahs and a substantial run of Kota painting.
Garadia Mahadevप्रकृतिKota
A small Shiva shrine on the lip of a gorge where the Chambal runs several hundred feet below through a narrow limestone channel. It is the clearest single view of what the river does to this plateau.
सबसे अच्छा समय: August–February.
National Chambal Gharial Sanctuaryवन्यजीवKota, Baran and downstream into Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh
A 400 km river sanctuary declared in 1979, holding the largest surviving gharial population in the world along with mugger, Gangetic dolphin, smooth-coated otter and Indian skimmer. It survives because the river was considered ritually impure and the ravines were considered dangerous, so neither pilgrims nor industry settled on it.
सबसे अच्छा समय: November–March. कैसे पहुँचें: Boat trips run from Palighat and from points near Dholpur and Morena.
Mukundara Hills Tiger Reserveवन्यजीवKota, Bundi, Jhalawar and Chittorgarh
Notified in 2013 around the older Darrah sanctuary, on a long parallel ridge cut by the Mukandwara pass. Dry deciduous forest, leopard, sloth bear and a small, closely managed tiger population.
सबसे अच्छा समय: October–March.
Gagron Fortविरासतयूनेस्कोJhalawar
A jal durg wrapped on three sides by the Ahu and Kali Sindh and on the fourth by a moat, built directly onto the rock. Inscribed in 2013 as part of the UNESCO Hill Forts of Rajasthan, and the only one of the six that depends on water rather than height.
Jhalarapatan and the Sun TempleविरासतJhalawar
A walled temple town on the Chandrabhaga, with a tenth-century Padmanabh (Sun) temple carrying a tall curvilinear tower and dense figural carving. The Chandrabhaga temple group on the river outside the walls is older still and is the site of the Kartik cattle fair.
Kolvi Buddhist cavesविरासतJhalawar
Around fifty chambers cut into laterite between roughly 700 and 900 CE, with stupas built to hold a Buddha image in the chamber where relics would once have gone, and a standing Buddha some twelve feet high. Related excavations at Binayaga and Hathiagaud nearby make this the last significant Buddhist landscape in Rajasthan.
Ramgarh crater and the Bhand Deva templeप्रकृतिBaran
A 3.5 km circular structure with a raised rim, identified as a meteorite impact crater and designated a National Geological Monument. A village and a tenth-century temple sit inside it — Bhand Deva, carved densely enough to be called the Khajuraho of Hadoti locally, which is a stretch about scale and fair about idiom.
Sitabariतीर्थBaran
A grove of kunds and shrines at Kelwara, associated with Sita's forest exile and with Valmiki's ashram. The Sahariya fair held here on Jyeshtha Amavasya is the community's largest annual gathering, and functions as a marriage market and a livestock market at once.
सबसे अच्छा समय: May–June for the fair, otherwise October–March.
Shergarh FortविरासतBaran
A fort on a loop of the Parvati river, with Buddhist and Jain remains reused in its walls — evidence of a much older settlement on the site than the fort that now names it.
BhainsrorgarhविरासतChittorgarh
A small fort on a cliff at the meeting of the Chambal and the Bamani, on the western edge of the Hadoti country where it gives way to Mewar. Now run as a heritage hotel by the family that has held it, which is why it is intact.
MenalविरासतChittorgarh
A group of Shiva temples of the eleventh and twelfth centuries beside a gorge on the Bundi–Chittorgarh road, with a waterfall that runs only in and just after the monsoon. Administratively Mewar, culturally the western hinge of this region.
सबसे अच्छा समय: July–September for the fall.
Bhimlat Mahadev fallsप्रकृतिBundi
A shrine at the foot of a monsoon waterfall dropping into a pool in the sandstone. Dry by November, which is the point about surface water on this plateau — the Chambal runs all year and almost nothing else does.
सबसे अच्छा समय: August–September.
Bhawani Natya ShalaविरासतJhalawar
A theatre built in 1921 inside the Jhalawar palace complex by Maharaj Rana Bhawani Singh, laid out on the European proscenium plan he had seen in Parsi theatre — a stage with a pit and machinery, in a princely state of a few thousand square kilometres.
