| Sarhul | Chaitra, March–April, when the sal flowers | The Oraon and Munda new year, celebrated at the sarna grove with an offering of sal flowers by the pahan. No ploughing or sowing takes place before it, so the festival is also the agricultural start date. |
| Tusu Parab and Makar Sankranti | Through Poush, ending mid-January | A month of women's songs to Tusu, ending with the decorated frame carried to the river and floated at Makar Sankranti, alongside bathing, fairs and pithe. New verses are composed every year. |
| Bwisagu | Mid-April | The Bodo-Kachari new year, kept in Mech villages at the forest fringe with the kham drum, Bagurumba dancing, and rites for the cattle before anything else in the household. |

| Dasain, Tihar and Durga Puja | October–November | The Nepali-speaking and Bengali festival calendars run in the same weeks across the same towns — Deusi and Bhailo parties in the Terai villages, and pandals in Siliguri, Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar. |
