Semi-arid to subhumid, drier than the Awadh plain to its east and hotter in summer. Annual rainfall of roughly 600–700 mm, almost all of it between late June and September; May and June routinely reach 44–46 °C, and the Holi season in February and March is the mildest and most comfortable stretch of the year.

घूमने का सबसे अच्छा समयOctober to March. For Holi, arrive several days ahead — Barsana's Lathmar day falls before the national date and the town fills days in advance. Janmashtami in August fills Mathura to capacity.
