Tropical monsoon on a plateau, wetter than the Chhattisgarh plains below it — roughly 1,400–1,600 mm, most of it between mid-June and September, with the Abujhmarh slopes taking more. Winter nights on the plateau drop to 8–10 °C, which is cold enough for the mahua to flower on schedule; May afternoons reach 42–44 °C in the Indravati valley and stay several degrees cooler under closed canopy.
