Barak Valley · Eastern Himalaya & Brahmaputra Belt

भूभाग और पारिस्थितिक अंचल

Humid subtropical and among the wettest lowlands in India — roughly 2,500 to 3,200 mm a year, most of it between May and September, with pre-monsoon storms from March. The hills that ring the basin trap the rain and the drainage is slow, so the plain sits under water for weeks rather than hours. Winter is short, foggy and mild, and it is the only reliable drying season the year offers.

WinterNovember–February10–27 °CThe dry window. Son Beel and Chatla are under rice, the tea gardens are pruned, and this is the wedding, Raas and pitha season.
Pre-monsoonMarch–May20–33 °CKalbaisakhi storms and the first flush of tea. Bohag Bihu, Chaitra Sankranti and the Bhuban climb fall in this stretch.
MonsoonJune–September25–34 °CSustained rain and slow-draining floods. The haors fill, boats replace roads in the low villages, and the Silchar–Guwahati road over the Barail is the first thing to be cut by landslip.
Post-monsoonOctober22–31 °CWater falls, Durga Puja fills the towns, and the winter rice goes in behind the receding beels.

घूमने का सबसे अच्छा समयNovember to February for the wetlands, the tea gardens and the Manipuri Raas. Late February or March for the Bhuban Shivaratri climb. Avoid June to September unless the flood itself is the point — it closes roads with very little notice.
