| The Chargola exodus labourers | 1921 | Labour history | In May 1921 thousands of tea labourers walked off the gardens of the Chargola and Longai valleys in the border belt and set out for home during the non-cooperation agitation. It is the largest single labour action in the region's history, it is remembered by the collective act rather than by any leader's name, and it is still cited in Assam's plantation politics. |
