Humid subtropical with a monsoon that arrives in the last week of June and delivers most of the year's 900–1,100 mm. The temperature range is wide for a plain — 3–5 °C on a January night in Lucknow, 44–46 °C on a May afternoon — and the pre-monsoon loo blows hot and dry from the west through May and early June.

MonsoonJuly–September26–36 °CThe Ghaghara floods and cuts new channels most years. Jhoola swings go up, kajri and savan songs are sung, and Teej is observed.
Post-monsoonOctober20–33 °CClear, mild, and the start of the Ramlila and Dussehra season, particularly at Ayodhya.

घूमने का सबसे अच्छा समयOctober to March for the city, its monuments and its food. Late June if the point is Dussehri mangoes at Malihabad. Muharram follows the lunar calendar and moves through the year — check the date, because Lucknow changes character entirely for it.
